Encore Symphonic Concert Band Performance:

Date: May 4, 2017
Place: Wilmar Heights Event Centre, Toronto

In preparation of celebration of Canada’s 150th Anniversary,
Encore Band performed “Canada 150”, a six movements suite composed by Vern Kennedy, our own long time band member.
The start of this project began with a conversation between two of our Encore Band members, Tom Fleming and Vern Kennedy a few months ago. Tom publishes Vern’s music and he suggested that Vern should compose a suite for Canada’s 150 celebration.
They agreed that it should reflect the diversity of Canada and the traditions of the country’s geography. The result is a musical journey across Canada from Atlantic to Pacific which honours all five main regions, and ending with a finale for the entire country.

The six movements are titled:
1. Down East Reel
2. Joie De Valse
3. Highways and Waterways
4. Prairie Dog Polka
5. Mountain Majesty
6. My Canada, My Love (concert band version with optional choir accompaniment)
